Abstract

This is a preliminary clinical report of a new amphotericin B 3% lotion * for various cutaneous Candida albicans infections. Amphotericin B is a polyene antifungal antibiotic, useful for the treatment of many mycotic infections. It has been used extensively in the management of the deep-seated mycoses. In this study, 35 patients were placed on amphotericin lotion for periods varying from 1 to 6 weeks. These cases included 23 cases of monilial intertrigo involving the groin, perianal, perineal, inframammary, or axillary areas. In addition, 6 cases of monilial paronychia, 2 cases of erosio interdigitalis blastomycetica, 3 cases of generalized moniliasis in infants, and 2 cases of primary seborrheic eczema of long standing with secondary monilial involvement, proven by direct microscopic examination, were treated.
