Abstract

In this work, alkaline earth sodium borate glasses doped with Dy2O3 in chemical composition 10AO:25Na2O:64B2O3:1Dy2O3 (where AO = MgO, CaO, SrO and BaO) were prepared by melt-quenching technique. The density, molar volume and refractive index of the glass samples were carried out at room temperature. The excitation spectra under 575 nm emission wavelength showed peaks at 324, 336, 349, 363, 386, 424, 453 and 471 nm assigned by 6H15/2→4M17/2, 4I9/2, 6P7/2, 6P5/2, 4K17/2, 4G11/2, 4I15/2 and 4F9/2, respectively. The emission spectra, excited with 349 nm excitation wavelength, showed the peaks at 482 nm (4F9/2→6H15/2, blue light emission) and 575 nm (4F9/2→6H13/2, yellow light emission). The strongest emission was found in the glass sample with BaO. The color coordinates in the CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram of all glass samples were found in white light region and the CCT values of all samples were corresponding to the commercial cool white light (3100-4500 K).
