Abstract

Abstract The influence of adsorbate-induced changes in the surface on thermal desorption spectra is studied in the framework of two models corresponding to oxygen adsorption on fcc (111) and hcp (001) metal surfaces and to CO adsorption on Pt(110). The adsorbate-induced displacements of surface atoms are shown to affect the shape of thermal desorption peaks. In both models, however, the splitting of peaks is absent.
