Abstract

The effect of acute viral hepatitis on the activity of N-acetyltransferase was studied on six patients. Each patient received a 500-mg oral dose of sulphadimidine during the acute and convalescent phase. The acetylation ratio was not significantly changed as a consequence of mild to moderate hepatic impairment. The study suggests that dose modification is not needed in patient receiving drugs which are mainly eliminated by N-acetyltransferase.
