Abstract

Aramite® (2-(p-tert butylphenoxy) isopropyl 2-chloroethyl sulfite), Tedion® (2,4,4",5-tetrachlorodiphenyl sulfone), Kelthane® (1,1-bis(p-chlorophenyl)-2,2,2-trichloroethanol), ovex, and Aramite-Tedion or Aramite-ovex combinations gave effective control of two-spotted spider mites (Tetranychus telarius (L.)) on outdoor roses. Higher mite populations were observed in plots sprayed with DDT-lindane, methoxychlor-malathion, or methoxychlor than in untreated plots. Thiodan® (6,7,8,9,10,10-hexachloro-1,5,5a,6,9,9a-hexahydro-6,9-methano-2,4,3-benzodioxathiepin-3-oxide) was not effective as an acaricide. DDT-lindane, methoxychlor-malathion, malathion, and Thiodan reduced populations of the rose aphid (Macrosiphum rosae (L.)) and potato aphid (M. euphorbiae (Thomas)) for 1 week after application.
