Abstract

AbstractA short‐range three‐body interaction which arises from the deformability of the charge cloud of an atom is included in the interaction between atoms of an inert gas solid and its effect on the dispersion curves and elastic constants is discussed. The result is applied to krypton. Experimental dispersion curves, the bulk modulus at absolute zero, and the Debye temperature are compared with calculated values. It is found that on the whole the inclusion of the three‐body potential improves the agreement.
