Abstract

The level of plasma free fatty acids after an overnight fast is significantly lowered by oral administration of 5-methylpyrazole-3-carboxylic acid. The adipokinetic effects of epinephrine and human growth hormone in normal subjects are markedly reduced by pretreatment with the drug. The compound did not alter blood sugar levels. The pharmacological inhibition of lipolysis offers another means by which the mechanisms of the control of energy metabolism may be investigated.
