Abstract

Recent developments in the theory of dual integral equations and the related theory of dual cosine series are employed to study the plane strain problem of the effect of a non-uniform internal pressure on crack extension in an infinite body. The condition for crack extension is formulated so that a solution can be obtained to the problem where the non-uniform pressure arises as a consequence of the normal displacement being specified over part of the crack surface, the remaining parts being subject to a uniform surface pressure.
