Abstract

The effect of 2 MHz ultrasound at intensity levels from 2.5 to $22 {\rm W}/{\rm cm}^{2}$ on the growth rate and mitotic index of Pisum sativum roots was studied. The ultrasound produced an immediate reduction in the growth rate on the first postexposure day, followed by a gradual recovery to the control value. Ultrasound reduced the root meristem mitotic index. Intensity- and time-dependent relations were found for the growth rate and mitotic index reductions.
