Abstract

To investigate the effect and mechanism of different charge compensation on the luminescent property of Eu-doped BaSiO3, Ba0.92SiO3:0.08Eu, Ba0.88SiO3:0.08Eu and Ba0.84SiO3:0.08Eu, 0.08R+ (R = Na, K) phosphors were synthesized via co-precipitation method and the precursors were calcined in air. The crystal structure of the phosphors was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence property was assessed by a spectrophotometer. Different charge compensation methods were carried out for BaSiO3:Eu phosphor, including doping Na+ ions and K+ ions, and Ba0.88SiO3:0.08Eu phosphors were used as self-compensated samples. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of samples excited at 345 nm revealed that Eu2+ ions hardly existed in BaSiO3 host co-doped with K+ ions, indicating that the self-reduction of Eu3+ ions was restrained. Besides, the charge compensation method enhanced the emission intensity of Eu3+ ions both under 394 nm and 250 nm excitation, as well as the purity of the red-emitting phosphor. It was found that Ba0.84SiO3:0.08Eu,0.08Na+ showed better temperature stability and a longer lifetime than the Ba0.92SiO3:0.08Eu phosphor, suggesting that co-doping of Na+ ions was beneficial to this phosphor.
