Abstract

Educators with interest and expertise in gerontology and geriatrics are essential for the development and maintenance of the training programs necessary for preparing the nation's geriatric-care workforce. If these programs are to counteract the persistent shortages of geriatric-care personnel, it is important to listen to the concerns of these educators. This article presents feedback from educators in several disciplines regarding common issues involved in training geriatric-care personnel. Adequate funding remains a key ingredient for successful programs. Results from this study can contribute to the development of more effective strategies of support for training the diversity of service providers that are required to meet the needs of the growing number of older adults in our society.
