Abstract

The current year [which brought the seventieth anniversary of the October Revolution] has occasioned a summing up of the results of the development of socialism in the many centuries of history of world civilization. The October Revolution put an end to the exploitation of man by man and inaugurated the restructuring of society in the interests of the working people. Between 1944 and 1949, people's democratic and socialist revolutions were victorious in Bulgaria, Hungary, the German Democratic Republic, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Poland, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Albania, China, and Yugoslavia. Mongolia had embarked on the road of socialist construction even earlier; Cuba did so in 1961. Socialism has gone beyond the bounds of just one country and has become an economic and political system.
