Abstract

Abstract This investigation into the economic structure and development of Scanian (Map 1) fishing is based on different types of primary material from the statistics that report the sea fishing associated with the Scanian coastal communities and towns. The development will be analysed from 1870 to 1960, i.e. from a time when Sweden begins to transfer from agrarian society to industrial up to the time of highly industrialized society. Fishing is for the most part characterized as ancillary industry to farming. In Sweden, it plays a relatively insignificant role and is a marginal sector in this development. The reaction of marginal economic sectors during the industrialization process shows the spreading effect of the change.
