Abstract

The food habits of the wood-duck (Chenonetta jubata (Latham)), black duck (Anas superciliosa Gmelin), grey teal (A. gibberifrons Muller), blue-winged shoveler (A. rhynchotis Latham), pink-eared duck (-Malacorhynchus membranaceus (Latham)), and white-eyed duck (Aythya australis (Eyton)), are discussed and compared. These six species are the most common, and economically the most important, wild ducks occurring in inland Australia. It is shown that the numbers of different food items are relatively small, and that all the species studied eat the same materials but in varying proportions.
