Abstract

Bram van de Beek has written extensively about creation theology. This chapter explores the complex story of creation theology in the South African reformed context, viewed through the lens of in the 20th century, in six brief chapters. Apartheid theology may be regarded as a deeply contextual form of creation theology making selective use of neo-Calvinist concepts. The interest in creation theology amongst apartheid theologians allowed for considerable theological attention to themes such as cosmology, general revelation, common grace and the natural sciences. The primary task of Christian theology is to reflect on the confession that this world is and remains God's own beloved creation. The chapter overviews the ebb and flow of creation theology at Stellenbosch University requires further detailed exposition.
