Abstract

This article describes a successful collaborative endeavor among 14 countries in east, central, and southern Africa (ESCA)to form an organization of nurse leaders focused on health policy, nursing and midwifery practices, and health care delivery in the ESCA region. The overall goal of the East, Central, and Southern African College of Nursing (ECSACON)is to improve the health status of the individual countries and the region through cooperative actions. Two specific examples of ECSACON’s work are highlighted: the harmonization project for nursing and midwifery education and the infection prevention and control project.
