Abstract

In spite of numerous publications, in which the nonlinear and fractal nature of the Earth evolution is emphasized, until now, many processes in the solid Earth are considered in terms of the classical science of the closed equilibrium systems. The basic properties of the open dissipative nonlinear systems and their manifestation in all geospheres are discussed. Based on the ideas that the Earth is a nonlinear open system, special attention is given to the study of the problems of the earthquake mechanisms, their prediction, and the tectonophysical experiments. The reason for the awkward adoption of the new paradigm by the scientific community in the earth sciences is analyzed.
