The classic picture of splenomegaly, lymphadenopathy, anemia and a very high leukocyte count is probably only a late phase in the natural history, but it is this stage of the disease that has received the most study. The pathologic processes at the inception of a disease are always the most interesting, yet there are few clinicopathologic data on chronic lymphatic leukemia in its early stages.
