Abstract
The non-linear wave interaction of the explosive type is investigated in non-equilibrium media under the condition that one of the waves is near the linear stability boundary. Both for the weak and the strong wave coupling case the interaction is shown to be enhanced as compared with the case of the usual explosive instability. The self-similar solutions obtained demonstrate that the wave amplitudes grow more steeply and the characteristic time of the instability essentially decreases. The theory is applied to the investigation of the h.f. and l.f. wave interaction in an electron beam-plasma system.
