• This study is a pioneer in longitudinal studies of community resilience. • The study facilitates the understanding of how resilience is displayed over time. • Perceived community resilience scores increased during emergency situations compared to routine times. • Preparedness, trust in leadership and collective efficacy tend to increase during emergency situations.
