Abstract

The behaviour of three Solacet (ICI) dyes on secondary cellulose acetate has been examined, and isotherms of the Langmuir type have been obtained. A resemblance to the behaviour of direct dyes on cellulose has been found, but affinity increases slightly with increasing concentration of sodium chloride. Diffusion is non‐Fickian, the apparent diffusioncoefficient in steady‐state experiments increasing with increasing external concentrationof dye. In the absence of salt, Solacet dyes in solution hydrolyse slowly, and in presence of salt aggregation is liable to occur.
