Abstract
Despite the constant improvement of hardware and functional methods of orthodontic treatment, the recurrence of dental anomalies remains an urgent problem today. To preserve and consolidate the result achieved in the major phase of orthodontic treatment, various types of retainers are used. The research results show the dependence of the success of securing results on the duration of the period of retention. This study confirms a direct correlation between the duration of major orthodontic treatment and the risk of recurrence. It was found that with an increase in the duration of major orthodontic treatment, recurrence occur in the long-term after the end of treatment. In addition, recurrence in long-term period is associated largely with the preservation of structure in case of fixed retainer and the correct mode of use in the case of removable retainers.
