Abstract

The atomic excitation by heavy ion impact enables investigation of atomic states not accessible by optical excitation. The three electron configuration of lithium is the simplest case for which auto-ionizing states can be populated by single electron transition. Recently we started the study of Li ls2snl excitation cross sections by proton impact.1 For low proton energies below 100 keV an unexpected increase of the 1s(2s2p 1P)2P. In this paper we present a comparison of the results of an SCA calculation, for this two-step process, with our experimental results.
