Abstract
This research conducts a comprehensive and systematic investigation of the Ba in the mid-sentence. Based on the description of the semantic types of the subsequent discourse of Ba, combined with the domain theory to analyze its interpersonal pragmatic function, mental space and domain value differences. The main point is: Ba in the mid-sentence indicates a pause and relaxation in the content world, expresses embarrassment and “adding new cognition” in the epistemic world, and eases interpersonal distance in the speech-act world; the functions of Ba in the mid-sentence are dynamic and diverse, which are consistent and closely related to the context and the proposition. these functions are not isolated and disorderly, but the projection of multiple domains of mental space, and the domain value changes regularly.
