Abstract

SummaryCarex acaulis (Cyperaceae) occurs in Patagonia and as a disjunct on East Falkland Island. Examination of the holotype reveals that some specimens previously reported as “C. acaulis” are actually referable to other taxa (e.g., C. macrosolen and C. barrosii); importantly, some specimens previously reported as “C. fuscula” are also assignable to C. barrosii. Consequently: (1) this is the first report of C. barrosii from Tierra del Fuego and the Falkland Islands; (2) C. macrosolen is more widespread and frequently occurring in the Fuegian archipelago than previously reported; and (3) further verification is needed before C. acaulis should be included as a member of the Fuegian flora.
