Abstract

An analytical model for the distribution of average instantaneous terrestrial horizontal surface solar radiation over the day is developed. The model treats beam and diffuse radiation as separate components of total instantaneous radiation, and takes into account the bimodal clear-cloudy character of instantaneous solar radiation. It is shown that the radiation distribution is a function of both the monthly average clearness index and air mass. The results of the model are found to be in good agreement with experimental measurements.
