Abstract

It is shown that the assumption that the amplitude of radio waves propagated from a point source falls off inversely as the group path P′ leads to a value of apparent reflection coefficient of the ionosphere which may be seriously in error, and in particular to a large error in the measurement of the electronic collision frequency in the F-region.
