Abstract

The eigenmodes and noneigenmodes of a planar metamaterial dielectric waveguide are investigated. The dispersion dependences and field distributions of the modes are calculated for structures with step and parabolic profiles of the permittivity and permeability. It is shown that the magnetic field can exhibit an anomalously large increase in a waveguide with variable permittivity and permeability profiles. The effect of the nonlinearities of media on the mode propagation coefficients is studied.
