Abstract

In November 1982, champagne corks popped in the Samuelsson laboratory after the announcement by the Nobel Foundation that Bengt Samuelsson, Sune Bergström, and Sir John Vane were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for “their discoveries concerning prostaglandins and related biologically active substances.” The author had the good fortune to be a fellow in the Samuelsson laboratory at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm during this period and had an opportunity to attend the 1982 Nobel Fest for this astounding achievement.
