Abstract

Where do migration discourses and politics come from? This volume highlights the value of a focus on discourse and politics in the field of migration studies that looks beyond migration issues. We observe that migration discourse and politics are related to a range of other issue areas and are dealt with at multiple levels of governance. Roma immigration and their securitization; gendered and informal immigration; perceptions of integration by migrants themselves; the role of economic interests and economic nationalism in shaping migration preferences; ideology and entry policies, as well as the linguistic and institutional evolution of asylum systems: these are all examples in which migration discourse and politics are charged with concerns about other issue areas as well.KeywordsEuropean UnionImmigration PolicyVoter OpinionMigration IssueHost SocietyThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
