Abstract

Background: Heart failure is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in diateticpatienRthatfrNuently manifests in the absence of impaired left ventricular systolic function. In contrast to the strong evidence base for the treatment of systolic heart failure with ACE inhibitors and ARBs, their benefit in the treatment of heart failure with preserved left ventricular function (HFPEF) is unclear. In the setting of recent studies demonstrating the effects of direct renin inhibition in human and experimental diabetes, we sought to determine the effectiveness of this strategy in diabetes-induced HFPEF.
