Abstract

In their manuscript, “The Direct Costs of Coronary CT Angiography Relative to Contrast-Enhanced Thoracic CT: Time-Driven Activity-Based Costing, “Zimmerman et al.,1 look at the technical component of the performance of Coronary CT angiography (CCTA) and contrast-enhanced thoracic CT (CECT) performed in the hospital-based outpatient setting and test the hypothesis that the direct costs of performing CCTA and CECT are significantly different although the technical component of these procedures is reimbursed at the same rate under the same ambulatory payment classification (APC) group designated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
