Abstract
The self assembly of glycyl-L-alanine, Cu(NO3)2·3H2O and 4,4′-bipyridine gave a chiral binuclear complex capturing uncoordinated 4,4′-bipyridine through weak hydrogen-bonding and π–π interactions to form a 3D supramolecular framework with a 1D chiral channel, [Cu4(C5H8N2O3)4 (H2O)4(C10H8N2)2]·(C10H8N2)·8H2O (1). Racemic glycyl-D,L-alanine gave a centrosymmetric binuclear complex [Cu2(C5H8N2O3)2 (H2O)2(C10H8N2)]·8H2O (2) in which a 1D double-chain of water molecules is anchored. The orientation of functional groups of dipeptides in binuclear units plays a subtle role in structural differences. The uncoordinated 4,4′-bipyridine plays a cooperative role in forming the extended supramolecular framework of 1.
