Abstract
More and more countries are digitalizing the issuing of non-preferential Certificates of Origin (CO). The Netherlands and Belgium have both build up a robust experience in this field. Digitalizing is a necessary evolution as more and more Customs and logistic processes are running electronically. As with all digitalization processes challenges, on technical level but also on human level, need to be dealt with. While coping with these challenges at the same time one needs to anticipate to new developments as blockchain and artificial intelligence. All this is no longer possible on a national level but needs the support and coordination of an international body. On the level of CO the International Chamber of Commerce has taken up this challenge.
