Abstract

A digital transformation is taking place in healthcare, especially since the Covid-19-pandemic which stands for the intersectoral networking and empowerment of people. E‑health, meaning the use of digital technologies in healthcare, induces many benefits such as increased individual health literacy. However, they are confronted with various challenges such as the risk of violating personal rights. This basic article is dedicated to the term e‑health and introduces the relevant actors of the healthcare system. Further it discusses selected benefits as well as challenges and presents relevant technical prerequisites for the implementation and use of e‑health technologies. A conclusion ends the article.
