Abstract

The Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) play a crucial role in connecting people, organizations and institutions in different countries. Mediated communication is especially important for migrants’ transnational networks with their countries of origin. Whereas much has been said about the role of mass media for migrant communities, digital media and migration is a still developing research field. Through examples from two qualitative research projects, this paper discusses Turkish migrants’ transnational use of digital media. Digital media intensify transnational practices at the micro level and change the character of migrants’ transnational engagements with Turkey by making them a “banal” part of their everyday lives.
