Abstract
We discuss the γ production from nuclear interactions of cosmic ray particles on the interstellar gas in the standard framework of particle physics by using the LUND Monte Carlo. We evaluate this background in the energy range between 1 GeV and 10 TeV with the known map of interstellar gas. In this way, it is possible to predict the number of photons received by a typical Cerenkov detector. It is shown that the galactic background could be seen by this kind of telescope.
