Abstract

In this paper we treat the problems of diffraction of plane waves by an infinite strip and by an infinite plane with a slit. Uniform asymptotic expansions valid for high frequencies are obtained. This is done by using some techniques recently developed by the author and others for solving problems in edge diffraction. These problems are of interest because they present the simplest examples of multiple diffraction. The methods presented in this paper can be adapted to more general situations in which the phenomenon of multiple diffraction appears.
