Abstract

The interest during the Enlightenment to promote the popular education was connected in certain fields with the implementation ofteaching religious orders. In Vélez-Málaga at the middle of the century the religious Alonso de Carrión supported by his brothers promoted the creation of a school trying sorne projects with different religions. However the Royal Order from 1764 obliged to give up the foundation aspirations and the educational plans were restricted to the maintenance of two grammar tutors who taught the young people from Vélez free of charge.
