Abstract

The chapter explores in some detail about how the British Psychological Society (BPS) and psychologists can equip themselves with the tools and attitudes to be leaders of change. The author displays her wealth of knowledge and experience regarding equality and diversity issues. This change in relation to diversity and equality means that institutions and services must engage with Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) individuals in ways that embody equality. The author speaks plainly about what is needed from psychologists to create a fairer system to engage with BME communities to prevent discrimination. In the latter part of her chapter she speaks robustly to the BPS Senior Management team and Trust Board about being more representative of the needs of diverse groups by changing policies and practices rather than just writing guidelines on diversity.
