Abstract

1. 1. The liver activity of arginase, arginine synthetase, ornithine transcarbamoylase and ornithine δ-transaminase differed significantly in the cattle ( Bos taurus domesticus), sheep ( Ovis aries), horses ( Equus caballus) and rabbits ( Oryctolagus cuniculus). 2. 2. Blood cells of cattle, sheep and horses contained arginase. 3. 3. On the basis of enzyme activities it is suggested that bovine liver has a greater ability for urea production than that of rabbits. 4. 4. Rabbit liver, however, is able to metabolize ornithine into glutamate to a greater degree than cattle liver.
