Abstract

The New Cosmology integrates scientific facts, including discoveries about the expanding universe and evolution, and proposes that creation is on-going and—building on the work of Teilhard de Chardin—emerging into greater complexity. Despite the numerous monographs on the topic by religious, is appreciation of this cosmology widespread among U.S. sisters and how well do they understand the theological implications for their own lives as vowed religious? To answer these questions, select organizations of women religious were surveyed about their familiarity with the operative concepts and their perception of its implications on religious life. The results demonstrated marked differences among the three age cohorts of survey participants.
