Abstract

A S INCREASING EMPHASIS IS GIVEN to agriculture in the process of economic growth, a few countries are cited as examples of economies with relatively responsive agricultural sectors. Invariably, Mexico is included. The 35-year record, from 1929 to 1965, with an approximate five per cent rate of growth in crop production, places Mexico among the leading performers for long-term agricultural production growth; few other countries, particularly in Latin America, have obtained a comparable growth rate.
