Abstract

from discovery of the fatal neurological disease Kuru, much medical and anthropological research1 is being conducted in the Fore2 area of New Guinea. Some linguistic material dealing with this language has already been published, and it is hoped that this sketch of the dialects will prove of value to those considering research through the vernacular. The material used for this comparison of the dialects was collected during a survey conducted by the author in SeptemberOctober, 1962. In all, 44 sets of material representing the 65 Fore villages were obtained, each having been elicited at or close to the informant's own village area.
