Abstract

Dr. Livingston has presented an excellent and complete book on the practical aspects of the convulsive disorders in children. The book will be extremely useful to every general practitioner and pediatrist. There are a number of pertinent statements, such as "an electroencephalographic examination should be performed when a diagnosis cannot be established by the usual clinical and laboratory investigations." He has a very sensible evaluation of the hypoglycemic convulsions. In the treatment of convulsions, the author advises against the use of ether if there is an acute disease of the respiratory tract. There is some question as to whether ether should ever be used. The symptomatology and the neurologic findings in cerebral birth injuries might have been enlarged.
