Abstract

Objective To explore the diagnosis and operative effect of fungus ball sphenoid sinusitis. Methods The clinical manifestation,imaging features,pathology of sinus cavity and operative effect of 18 cases with fungus ball sphenoid sinusitis were summarized and analyzed. Results The main clinical manifestations of 18 cases were headache or (and) blood in nasal discharge or accompanied by ophthalmic nerve symptoms.Eighteen cases were all cured by endoscopic sinus surgery. No recurrence was found in follow-up of 3-18 months. Conclusion The diagnosis depends mainly on the CT scanning, and can be final diagnosed by pathological examination.It is the preferred manner that sphenoid sinus are treated with focal cleaning and sufficient drainage by nasal endoscopic surgery.
