Abstract
Background: In Alberta, diabetes foot ulcers (DFUs) account for over 70% of all lower limb amputations (LLA) which have been increasing annually at a significant rate. Diabetes Canada 2013 Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) indicate that annual foot examinations are critical for comprehensive diabetes management. Approximately 85% LLA can be prevented through early screening for, and treatment of DFUs.
