Abstract

Since my article on the Devlin Commission (1959) was published [(2002) 22 OJLS 17] my attention has been drawn to Colin Baker's State of Emergency, Crisis in Central Africa, Nyasaland 1959-1960 (London, 1997); I regret that I was not aware of the existence of this book when I wrote the article. From it and from correspondence it transpires that the minutes of evidence of the commission are in the Rhodes House Library. Because of some misunderstanding between me and the Rhodes House Archivist I was under the impression that they were not available there; had I known of their existence I should of course have consulted them. Professor Baker's book makes extensive use of these and
