Abstract

Compared with the cross gain modulation or the cross phase modulation, nondegenerate four wave-mixing (NDFWM) in semiconductor lasers or semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) is an attractive method to realize high speed wavelength converters working for high bit rate signals exceeding 100 Gb/s or phase conjugate generators for compensating the dispersion and the nonlinearity of the optical fiber. In this report, the theoretical and experimental discussion for improvement of the NDFWM in a DFB laser is presented.
