Abstract
In the big data era, data is ubiquitous in our daily life, driving the vigorous development of language technologies. With the rapid development of speech recognitions, neural machine translation (NMT), computer-aided translation (CAT), semantic retrieval, cloud-based translation, and other tools, technology has exerted an unprecedented influence on the translation industry and translation education. This paper expounds the concepts regarding translation technology from different perspectives and explores the important role of translation technology in the translation processes in a broad sense, including its influence on automatic translation, reuse of language assets, translation quality control, formatting, translation collaborations, and managements. Based on the above analysis, this paper summarizes the development trends of translation technology such as integration, visualization, automation, and introduction of open-sourced, smart, and cloud-based technologies. In conclusion, this paper holds that translation technology has become indispensable in the translation education system and has presented a breakthrough opportunity for the innovations of modern translation studies. The translation education sector should pay more attentions to the development of translation technology, enhance the curriculum regarding translation technology, and conduct in-depth research on translation technology. All these efforts will be of great significance and contribute to the enhancement of students’ translation skills, improvement in the construction of contemporary translation disciplines, and expansions of topics in modern translation studies.
